From a simpler time, two years ago...
A low-level bug has been making the rounds
and, two weeks ago I was nauseous, with chills.
Last week it returned and it took my mom down.
Today it’s my brother with intestinal ills.
This morning I woke feeling achy and gross,
so it looks like the bug has come round the full circle.
Or perhaps it was just biding time in our house,
waiting to ambush the next one who’d fumble
by staying up late, or not scrubbing his hands,
or standing too near someone sneezing uncovered;
that's all a germ wants: one checkpoint unmanned,
and all our white blood cells are--boom--out-maneuvered!
