How could my mother ever vote for Trump?

She once campaigned for Senator McGovern!

There’s no excuse for championing this chump.

She used to brag how, at JFK’s stump

speeches, even on the radio,

she thrilled, her throat would get a lump.

but she ditched the Left when they refused to dump

Clinton for his serial peccadillos.

So how can she not balk at those of Trump?

She used to think the Times packed such a thump--

the sine qua non of good journalism--

but now she calls it “fake news”, thanks to Trump.

Mom used to wonder about the German slump

into Naziism, devotion to a demagogue,

and doesn’t see the parallel with Trump.

What mental weakness could have caused her jump

from fairness, respect, basic morality

that she’d support a sociopath like Trump?
